U2-72 : THRILLER PROJECT 2007/8

Can you describe what happens in our thriller?
-A girl finds something that must be important , she takes it and hides. Another, looks for that thing and sees that it is stolen, turns on the other guy perhaps thinking he is the one that stole the thing. The girl just looks on.
Which one shot would you remove and why?
-The end shot would be more effective to end the sequence, the use of special effects with the blood transition is very powerful!

Editing, Really effective, but goes on a bit too long , need to cut the end of the sequence shorter.
Examples of good editing was:- Mel looking into the bag.- When the guy gets shot.
Camera work, very good variety of shots. Steady shots.
Example of camera work is: point of view shot, when character is looking up at gun.
Sound, The music at the start was very good, created suspense, the music needs to be prolonged over the rest of the film. Need to get rid of the some of the laughing.
Miss en Scene, Outfits are really good with the balaclavas. good diegetic noises e.g snaping twigs, rustling leaves, gun noises. good setting, in the forest- not quite sure why the girl would be hovering around by herself.
Good suspense with opening the bag, whats inside?
Train going past in one shot ruins it. Props look very realistic.
Narrative- quick cuts, web of intrigue, why is she walking in the forest.

Teacher Feedback

I really like your idea, it is quite different to everyone else's. It reminds me of a Bond film, or a Mission Impossible theme.
One of my concerns is your intention to film in college, I think you may struggle to find a corridor that is not in use. Also it will look very much like a college rather than an office building or a government building. Perhaps you should reconsider your location or arrange to shoot at the end of the day.
In addition to this I would advise against filming behind the stage in the Hall because you need a member of staff with you while you film.
You also need to flesh out your blog with a full and complete shot list and your animatic must be posted.

Thriller Idea- Deep impact

For our thriller project we have decided to do base our story on a action orrientated film like 'hunted' and XXX 2 the next level, but still strongly showing conventions of a typical thriller opening sequence eg: gazes', conflict, secret item\object etc.
-for our project the story line shall be: two opposing government agents are looking for an item in an secluded woodland. it starts with a civilian walking through the woods who trips on the secret item hidden in the leaves after which she digs the item up and is intrigued by the contents of it, after she hears people coming and hides, a soldier appears with a gun and looks for the item, meanwhile an opposing agent tries to take out the soldier, a fight takes place leading to one of them getting shot, the walker acts as a shocked witness leaving everything at a cliff hanger.
-we will include a variety of different shot types such as: tracking/panning shot, numerous close up and mid shots, as well as various wide shots, the shots will be done at a variety of angles etc
-we hav'nt yet established a complete shot sequence.
